Peace violence
For Hyderabadis, Charminar is more than a historic monument; much more than what India Gate is for Delhi and the Howrah Bridge is for Calcutta.  The 56-metre-tall Charminar, built in the late 16th century, and its surrounding bazars are one of the busiest economic zones the city and serves as a food provider for thousands of people who work and sells their wares there.
Over the past two decades, a temple was built adjoining the Charminar structure, with the tacit knowledge of authorities. While this construction stood uncontested for years, the recent form of aggressive assertion has led to a disruption of peace and has evoked diverse opinions from different quarters. Questions have been raised about the neutrality of ASI which is responsible for the maintenance of the monument. The area around the Charminar has come under police control and official and unofficial curfews have become the order of the day. It is important to notice that like other ‘peace keeping’ projects around the world, it is the Muslim community, including the merchants over there, who are most affected and victimized by these events
